The Train Wreck

“It’s good when you have a train wreck like that early in your teaching experience.”  I’d just taught my first lesson as a student teacher and this was my initial feedback.  My supervising teacher was right.  The lesson had been a train wreck, but that’s what I was there to learn.  My studies had taught me about pedagogical theory, the intellectual development of students, the logical steps of lesson development.  My teacher actually agreed that some of the activities had been good.  But writing a lesson plan is not the same as teaching a class.  I thought about how I would evaluate the lesson myself.  Overall, I think it went really well.  Apart from the train wreck thing.
